“Grease” (1978, dir. Randal Kleiser) is a musical that tells the love story of Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsen. Here is what some of the movie locations of the film look like today:

Sandy and danny on the australian beach

While in the film Sandy and Danny are supposed to be on a beach in Australia, the scenes were actually filmed at Leo Carillo State Beach located at 35000 Pacific Coast Hwy, Malibu, CA.

On a map, the exact part of the beach where Sandy and Danny spend their summer together is located exactly to the right of Lifeguard Station no. 3 (pictured below) and Sequit Point.

Rydell high (exterior)

Exterior portions of Rydell High were filmed at Venice High School located at 13000 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles, CA.

Some of the scenes filmed at this school include the reunion of the T-Birds at the beginning of the school year, the iconic musical number “Summer Lovin’,” and Danny trying out for various sports teams.

Frenchie’s house

Sandy and the Pink Ladies attend a slumber party at Frenchie’s house located at 4524 Kingswell Ave, Los Angeles, CA.

Frosty Palace

The local hangout Frosty Palace was actually built on the New York backlot of Paramount Pictures located at 5555 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, CA.

Although it is said that the original backlot that “Grease” filmed on was destroyed in a fire in the 1980s, below are some images of what New York street looks like today at Paramount Pictures Studios.

National bandstand dance

While the exterior scenes of Rydell High School were filmed at Venice High School, the interior scenes were filmed at Huntington Park High School located at 6020 Miles Ave, Huntington Park, CA.

The memorable National Bandstand Dance was filmed in the gym of this school.

Drive-in Movie Theater

Danny, Sandy, and the others go to the Drive-In, which was the former Pickwick Drive-In Theater that was once located at 1100 W. Alameda Ave, Burbank, CA.
