She’s the man (2006) Filming Locations
“She’s The Man” (dir. Andy Fickman, 2006) tells the hilarious story of Viola Hastings as she goes undercover as her twin brother, Sebastian, with the goal of playing soccer at the prestigious Illyria Prep when the women’s soccer team at her school gets cut. Amanda Bynes has always been one of my favorite comedians since childhood, and her portrayal of Viola/Sebastian still makes me laugh today. Here is what some of the filming locations from the movie look like today:
“Viola: “Ask me if I like...cheese.”
Duke: “Do you...like...cheese?”
Viola: “Why yes I do. My favorite’s gouda.”
Duke: “I like gouda too?”
Viola: “See?”
Duke: “See what?”
Viola: “We’re flowing!”
Duke: “We’re talking about cheese!”
Viola: “So what! Flow is flow.””

At the beginning of the film, Viola is seen playing soccer with her friends and boyfriend Justin at Jericho Beach, located at 3941 Point Grey Rd, Vancouver, BC V6R 1P6, Canada.

Cornwall prep
When Viola and her fellow teammates find out the women’s team is cut at her school Cornwall Prep, they are seen standing on the track and field of Vancouver Technical Secondary School located at 2600 E Broadway, Vancouver, BC V5M 1Y5, Canada. This is the same location of the nightmare sequence later in the film when Viola is wearing a pink ballgown and playing soccer.

Hastings house
Early in the film, Viola and Sebastian live at their mother’s home which is actually the John H. Macdonald house located at 417 5th St, New Westminster, BC V3L 2X5, Canada. In one scene, Monique mistakes Viola for Sebastian on the path leading up to the home.

Viola learns to act like a guy
When Viola decides to go undercover as her twin brother while he is away at a music gig in London, she invokes the help of her friends to learn how to act like a guy. She does this by observing and acting like the men she encounters while walking on the intersection of Granville and Robson Street in downtown Vancouver.

illyria prep
The school that Viola attends undercover as her brother Sebastian is Illyria Prep which is actually the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts located at 6450 Deer Lake Ave, Burnaby, BC V5G 3T6, Canada. Many scenes take place at this location, including Viola arriving on her first day, Duke seeing Olivia kiss the real Sebastian, and Viola sitting on a bench next to Eunice.

Soccer field at illyria
While most scenes set at Illyria were filmed at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, the soccer field that was used for the men’s soccer team practice sessions is actually the sports field of Vancouver College located at 5401 Hudson St, Vancouver, BC V6M 0C5, Canada.

dEbutante meeting
New Location! The scene with Viola attending the Debutante lunch was filmed at the University Women’s Club of Vancouver at 1489 McRae Ave, Vancouver, BC V6H 1V1, Canada. I do not believe that anyone shared this location yet, but the fireplaces and decorative spaces match those seen in the images below.

Final game: illyria vs. cornwall
The final game between the two teams was filmed at Thunderbird Stadium at the University of British Columbia located at 6288 Stadium Rd, Vancouver, BC V6T 1Z3, Canada.

New location! The Stratford Country Club Debutante Ball was filmed at the Fairmount Vancouver hotel, specifically in the Pacific Ballroom, located at 900 W Georgia St, Vancouver, BC V6C 2W6, Canada.
