Hocus Pocus (1993) Filming Locations

“Hocus Pocus” (1993, dir. Kenny Ortega) is my all-time favorite Halloween movie. The movie tells the story of Max Dennison who, along with his little sister Dani, classmate/love interest Allison, and talking black cat Thackery Binx, try to defeat the three Sanderson sisters (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Nijamy) in the town of Salem after they are accidentally brought back to life on Halloween night.

Thackery binx’s village

In the beginning of the film, Thackery is seen searching for his sister Emily which was filmed in Pioneer Village located at 98 West Ave, Salem, MA 01970. Tours are offered, so you can get a close glimpse of Thackey’s home and the forest that Emily disappears in with Sarah Sanderson.

Max and allison’s school

Max and Allison’s school was filmed at Phillips Elementary School located at 56 S. Washington Square, Salem, MA 01970. The scenes that were filmed here include the earlier classroom scene with Max and Allison, as well as the pottery-oven scene when the group is falsely convinced that they have finally defeated the Sanderson Sisters.

Max and Allison’s house is located at 4 Ocean Ave, Salem, MA 01970. This house is seen at the beginning of the film and later when Max, Allison, Dani, and Thackery return to the house after they mistakenly believe the Sanderson sisters had melted in the pottery oven at the high school.
